Investigação
INESC TEC advances the science and technology of digitally enabled systems, combining curiosity-driven research, technological ambition and commitment to impact. We see research as a way of expanding knowledge, learning through discovery and experimentation, and creating technologies that open new possibilities. Organised into eight scientific domains and rooted in close collaboration with our higher education associates, our work connects fundamental questions with real-world contexts. It brings together depth and interdisciplinarity to explore new intellectual frontiers, develop advanced technologies and contribute to the major transitions shaping Europe and the world.
Da investigação fundamental à aplicada
A ciência que fazemos no INESC TEC é desenvolvida através de 12 centros de investigação, com identidades e agendas científicas próprias, que trabalham em oito grandes domínios de conhecimento. Abrangemos toda a cadeira de valor científica – da investigação mais fundamental à mais aplicada.
A nossa abordagem privilegia a colaboração e a interdisciplinaridade, reunindo competências complementares para responder a desafios complexos. Os resultados científicos que produzimos alimentam a inovação que nos move, informam decisões políticas e contribuem para posicionar Portugal na vanguarda da investigação europeia e internacional.
O nosso trabalho combina avanços teóricos, validação experimental e relevância para o mundo real, garantindo que a excelência científica se traduz num impacto significativo. Each scientific domain brings together researchers with complementary expertise, creating the critical mass to ask new questions, test ideas and advance the science and technology of digitally enabled systems. Our research expands what can be understood, designed and built, generating knowledge, methods, technologies and capabilities that open new possibilities.
Through rigorous scientific work, doctoral research, experimentation and collaboration, these contributions connect discovery with application and intellectual ambition with practical consequence.
As nossas linhas temáticas
Digital transformation is reshaping how we observe, understand and act in the world. As intelligent, connected and autonomous systems become embedded in critical infrastructures, organisations, industries and everyday life, research must address a new generation of scientific and technological questions: how to model complexity, how to design for trust, how to operate under uncertainty and extreme conditions, and how to make transformation sustainable. INESC TEC’s 2023-2030 Strategic Plan defines four thematic lines that cut across our scientific domains: digital models, sustainable transformation, tackling the extreme, and trustworthy technology. Together, they guide research that connects discovery with application, computation with the physical and social world, and technological ambition with responsibility and long-term impact.
